DAY ONE: DEPARTURE DAY- LOS ANGELES - Wednesday
Arrival in Los Angeles. Upon our arrival, we will drop our luggage at the Hotel and head over for Lunch and a private
guided tour at the Petersen Automotive Museum located across the street from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art
(LACMA). Following the Petersen, which has a permanent collection of cars used in film and television and its
"Streetscape" exhibit depicting Los Angeles and its love affair with the automobile, we will walk across the street to
the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which opens its doors today especially for our viewing of a 19th-
Century/Early 20th-Century photography collection recently acquired by LACMA, presented by the collector/collection
benefactor and the Museum's photography curator. After our special event at LACMA, we'll head back to the Hotel, where
you can either have Dinner on your own at the Hotel's Courtyard Café or an aperitif in the bar before retiring for
the evening. Overnight in L.A. (L)
DAY TWO: OJAI / SOLVANG - Thursday
After breakfast at the Hotel, we'll check out and head up the coast towards Solvang, a Danish village known for its
replication of 19th century Danish architecture and for its decorative arts and cuisine. Along the way, we’ll stop
briefly in Ojai, known for its artisan shops, where you'll have time to shop a little. We’ll have lunch in Ojai before we
continue up Pacific Coast Highway to Solvang. After our arrival in Solvang, you will be taken on a private, guided walking
tour of downtown Solvang to hear about its unique history and to enjoy its quaint ambiance. Because of its
extensive menu, selection of Danish beers and huge smorgasbord, you'll be on your own for dinner at Bit of Denmark
Restaurant, perhaps the most authentic Danish eatery in Solvang AND the oldest food establishment in Solvang,
occupying an old-beam building that was a church until 1929. Overnight in Solvang. (B,L)
(Optional after-dinner evening activity): 45th Annual Pacific Coast Performing Arts Theatrefest -- An outdoor
amphitheatre performance of the hilarious Tony Award-winning play “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” at
the Solvang Festival Theatre (3 short blocks from our Hotel).
DAY THREE: DAY TRIP TO HEARST CASTLE IN SAN SIMEON - Friday
This morning after an early breakfast, we head out for San Simeon to tour of Hearst Castle, designed by San Francisco
architect Julia Morgan for publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst, and once the playground for the "rich and famous"
during Hollywood's Golden Age. Our route will include the spectacular drive along the picturesque Central California
Coast and a stop along away at Elephant Seal Rookery, a designated coastal area habitat, for a "photo op", followed
by a gourmet box lunch from the Cavalier Resort Restaurant. After our afternoon at Hearst Castle, we'll head back
down the coast towards Solvang for a lite dinner on your own at a true California icon, Pea Soup Andersen's and
overnight in Solvang. (B,L)
DAY FOUR: SOLVANG/SANTA BARBARA - Saturday
After breakfast, you'll have time for some last minute shopping in Solvang before we check out of the Hotel for a
private guided "sideways" scenic tour of the backroads of the Santa Ynez Valley filled with wineries, Arabian and
miniature horse farms, some wine and olive oil tastings along the way and lunch on your own at The Vineyard Inn
in the world-famous Santa Barbara Wine Country as we head down the coast towards Santa Barbara. Dinner at Louie's
at the Upham Hotel and overnight in Santa Barbara. (B,D)
DAY FIVE: HISTORIC SANTA BARBARA - Sunday
Free time until Noon to sleep a little later, have a leisurely breakfast on the veranda overlooking the Hotel’s exquisite
grounds, attend church or Mass at the Santa Barbara Mission, or just relax. We’ll have lunch at the “Arts and Letters
Café” in a courtyard surrounded by art galleries, before we take the private, custom-created architectural walking
tour of Historic Downtown Santa Barbara guided by a docent from the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara.
Time afterwards to stroll and shop in Santa Barbara’s vibrant downtown district, visit the Santa Barbara Museum of
Art, or take a trolley ride around Santa Barbara before you have dinner on your own at Downey’s (Santa Barbara’s #1
Zagat-rated 4-star restaurant). Overnight in Santa Barbara. (B,L )
DAY SIX: SANTA BARBARA /MONTECITO/SUMMERLAND/CARPENTERIA - Monday
After breakfast at the Hotel, we’ll take a sightseeing private guided motor tour created especially for us by "Captain Jack"
and his expert destination tour guides, starting with historic Stearns Wharf, the Presidio, original Charlie Chaplin Studio,
and the Santa Barbara Mission with its famous "rose garden". We’ll continue through the Riviera area to Montecito
where we have a “meet and greet” with Wendy Foster (Southern California "icon") and time to have lunch on your own
and to shop along the way. Also included are a visit and tour of Charlie Chaplin’s Montecito Inn where the concierge
will talk briefly about the hotel’s colourful history, and a visit and tour of the historic Biltmore Hotel, followed by our
passing by the butterfly beach area, the Ty Warner Estate and surrounding estates, and a short drive thru
Summerland with its interesting antique stores. We will also stop in Carpinteria to visit internationally-known
creator of French-style artisan chocolates, Chocolats du CaliBressan, followed by a drive by the estates of the east
beach area, the Mesa, and Hope Ranch. This evening we will have a gourmet picnic dinner in one of Santa
Barbara's exquisite parks, and complete our day, and our trip, with a "Sunset Cruise" at dusk on a 50-foot sailboat
along Santa Barbara’s beautiful coastline. Overnight in Santa Barbara. (B, Lite D)
DAY SEVEN: RETURN DAY - Tuesday
Early breakfast and check out at the Hotel this morning and departure for the Santa Barbara Airport to return Home. (B)
