ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS 8 Days / 7 Nights This Tour is suitable for all faiths. This Tour will be guided by various Chicago expert historians affiliated with the Chicago Architectural Foundation, the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, the City of Chicago, and the historic houses of worship included on this Tour. Each guide with provide extensive expertise regarding the work of Chicago's most prolific architects and knowledge of Chicago's eclectic neighborhoods and their history, and the distinctive architectural styles which are reflective of the diverse ethnic cultures and religions which have become the overall fabric of Chicago. You'll also meet leaders of the various houses of worship and have one-on-one dialogues with them about their congregations and their history in the Chicago community. Faith-based houses of worship on this Tour will include Catholic, Episcopal, Jewish, Presbyterian, Methodist, Unitarian, Baha'i, Baptist and Islamic, inter alia. You will have free time on this Tour to attend worship services individually and/or to attend special programs or cultural arts performances with the Tour Group at various houses of worship, subject to scheduling and ticket availability. Each day of the Tour will focus on the iconic houses of worship of at least one religious faith, and will visit the ethnic neighborhoods which have supported them - including having either Lunch or Dinner at iconic local neighborhood restaurants. This Tour will include a Day Trip to nearby Oak Park, Illinois to see Unity Temple, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1905 while Wright and his family lived in Oak Park and were members of Unity Temple's congregation. Chicago's faith-based affiliated colleges which have become historically significant attractions in the City are also included on this Tour. DePaul University, the largest Catholic university in the country, first founded by the Vincentians in 1898 to serve Roman Catholic children of immigrants, has since grown into an acclaimed liberal arts college. Loyola University of Chicago, a Jesuit university founded in 1870, is now the largest Jesuit university in the U.S. and home to the Saint Joseph College Seminary and the Jesuit First Studies Program, one of only three such programs in the country. This Tour has been scheduled to coincide with the annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival which showcases the best in local, national and international Gospel Music performers. NOTE: The selection of historic Chicago houses of worship for this Tour is solely based upon architectural and historical criteria -- including designing architect, architectural design and existing historical landmark designations. No house of worship has been selected nor excluded based upon religious affiliation. |
